Last week, Joe Biden took over the responsibilities as US President and gave a wonderful inaugural speech addressing the people of United States and rest of the World. The balanced and inspiring speech of Biden was written by an Indian man with origins from Telangana.
Vinay Reddy, the speech writer of President’s inauguration speech has been a long term associate of Biden. Though Vinay was born and brought up In United States, both his parents immigrated to US from Pothireddypeta of Karimnagar district, about 200 km from Hyderabad.
People of Pothireddypeta recall their association with Vinay Reddy’s father Narayana Reddy, who migrated to the US in 1970. Narayana Reddy, who did his schooling in the village, pursued MBBS in Hyderabad and later migrated to the US for better opportunities.
The family still owns three acres of land and a house in Pothireddypeta. Locals said that Narayana Reddy and his wife Vijaya Reddy still visit the village and meet relatives and friends frequently. They had last visited the village in February 2020.
Vinay Reddy’s grandfather Thirupathi Reddy had served as the village sarpanch for several years. Thatikonda Pullachari, who is now serving as the village sarpanch, said he worked with his grandfather Thirupathi Reddy in the 1980s.
“It’s a matter of pride not just for our family but the entire village that Mr. Vinay Reddy rose to such an important position in the US,” said Cholleti Sai Krishna Reddy, a relative of Vinay Reddy, who looks after their family land in Pothireddypeta Village.
