    8 Tips to prevent hairloss !

    Hair loss is a major concern for many men and women alike but it can seriously effect ones confidence, Hair loss occurs for several reasons, but the main causes are aging and genetics.

    What causes hair fall?

    • Our hair has a life cycle, they grow and get old and eventually fallout as part of this cycle, its common to lose some follicles every day, usually the density and thickness of the follicle remains same.
    • It should be a concern if there is noticeable thinning, patches of hair suddenly falling out.
    • There are many causes for hair loss, the most common is pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) affecting more than 50% of men and women.

    Other causes for hair loss:

    • Hormonal changes
    • Some health conditions
    • Medical treatments such as chemotherapy 
    • Mental and physical stress
    • Poor diet.Scalp conditions such as psoriasis and dandruff

     

    1) Good scalp and hair care

    The first and foremost thing to do is maintaining good hygiene. Washing your hair and scalp regularly prevents the build of oil and dirt which will damage your hair.  Dandruff, which haunts many people is caused because of fungus, keeping your scalp clean will make it difficult for the fungus to grow.

    Harsh treatments such as heat, curling and Dyes will damage the hair, avoiding these is suggested.

    2) Mediterranean Diet

    A study conducted and archived in Archives of Dermatological research in 2017 found a link between the ingredients in Mediterranean diet and androgenetic alopecia (baldness). Those who followed the diet showed the signs of slowing in baldness. Especially men.

    3) Protein

    Our hair follicles are made up of protein called keratin, So taking good amount of protein helps in strengthening of hair follicles.

    4) Vitamins

    Vitamins are necessary to maintain the balance of our body, study shows that vitamin deficiencies are closely related to hair loss.

    Some vitamins that are essential for healthy hair include

    Vitamin A, Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, zinc, iron, selenium.

    Make sure to include healthy amounts of these in your diet or take vitamin supplements, it is advised to consult a doctor before taking supplements.

    5) Coconut oil

    Coconut oil is rich in Vitamin E and helps to strengthen the hair. Applying it twice a week will help in reducing hair loss due to damage.

    6) Scalp massage

    A small study conducted on men proved that massaging scalp for 4 minutes stimulated hair growth. The theory is that massage will increase blood flow.

    A good massage will also reduce stress , massaging with an oil such as coconut oil will reap more benefits.

    7) Onion Juice

    Research shows that applying onion juice to hair rejuvenated hair grown in people with patchy alopecia,

    More than 80% of the subjects involved in research showed improvements within 6 weeks

    8) Hair loss medication

    If your hair loss is persistent despite the measure you take, several medications are available over the counter (OTC) which don’t you consult a doctor.

    Minoxidil – an active ingredient in Rogaine and finasteride are most popular and effective, however they do have some side effects, consult your dermatologist before using them.

    Summary:

    Hair loss is a common issue, especially from pattern baldness.  Taking good care for your hair will slow down your hair loss.

    Unlike past, baldness is not a permanent condition. There are several treatments to grow your hair back.
